Online Couples Therapy for Substance Use in Texas
Online couples therapy for partners in Texas when alcohol, drug use, recovery, or a history of substance use has become part of the relationship conflict.
If substance use is affecting trust, safety, conflict, or emotional distance in your relationship, the problem is rarely just one conversation or one habit. Couples often get stuck in a painful pattern: one partner worries, monitors, avoids, or pushes for change, while the other feels criticized, controlled, ashamed, or misunderstood. The more important the conversation becomes, the harder it can be to have without defensiveness, shutdown, or another fight.
I work with couples in Texas who care about the relationship and want help understanding what keeps taking over between them. Sometimes substance use is active and current. Sometimes recovery has begun, but the relationship has not caught up. Sometimes one or both partners grew up around substance use, conflict, or unpredictability, and those old patterns are still shaping what happens now.
This may be a fit if
Alcohol or drug use has become a source of conflict, secrecy, worry, or resentment.
One partner feels responsible for monitoring or managing what is happening.
One partner feels criticized, controlled, ashamed, or misunderstood.
Recovery is happening, but trust and emotional safety still feel fragile.
Conflict escalates quickly and neither of you knows how to slow it down.
Substance use is part of your past or family history and still affects closeness, trust, or conflict.
You want couples therapy that can talk honestly about substance use without reducing the whole relationship to substance use.
How we work
My approach is active, direct, trauma-informed, and harm-reduction oriented. We look at how substance use or recovery is affecting the relationship, while also paying attention to the deeper cycle underneath: the fear, pressure, distance, anger, shame, protection, and longing for connection that can get lost inside the fight.
The work is not about deciding who is right or assigning blame. It is about slowing the pattern down enough to understand what is happening between you and to practice different ways of responding when the conversation gets hard.
Online therapy for clients in Texas
Sessions are provided by secure telehealth. I am licensed in Texas and Illinois and can also work with clients in PsyPact participating states. Texas is the focus of this page because many best-fit clients are looking specifically for online couples therapy in Texas, but availability in Illinois and PsyPact states remains part of the practice.
Start with a consultation
